Group,

I come bearing excellent news!

Wirecutter’s editorial staff has expanded and advanced tremendously over the past 5 years.

We’ve added almost 50 journalists. Our viewers has tripled. We’ve stepped into a number of new classes, expanded many present ones, change into way more rigorous and intentional in preserving our catalog updated, and experimented with all types of latest journalistic initiatives and adventures.

And there’s way more to come back as we proceed to develop and innovate in 2024 and past.

However whereas a lot has modified over the previous 5 years, the construction of our editorial management staff has not.

That’s why I’m excited to announce a brand new editorial management staff that I imagine will higher meet our present wants — and, extra importantly, our future ambitions.

Beginning at the moment, 4 editorial administrators will report on to me and comprise our editorial management: Jason Chen, Christine Cyr Clisset, Lauren Sullivan, and a fourth as-yet-to-be-hired colleague.

Christine and Jason — very good journalists and leaders who’ve excelled as two of my deputies  — will every proceed to supervise three to 4 senior editors and their corresponding protection areas. They may even spearhead a number of vital new initiatives: partnering with digital and design on person expertise, exploring and increasing into new protection areas and journalistic initiatives, working with the enterprise aspect on new alternatives, and way more.

Lauren — a journalistic powerhouse — will proceed to supervise our viewers staff. She may even tackle discovery — which we proceed to see as a serious space of progress and alternative to achieve and assist vastly extra folks — and editorial operations (previously managing edit). We imagine bringing these sometimes-siloed elements of our newsroom collectively underneath one sturdy chief — and discovering new methods to construction and run these groups — will assist cohesion and communication, and can make it simpler to get selections made, and our journalism printed and promoted.

Andrew Kalinchuk — our longest tenured worker, and an extremely invaluable and proficient operational and course of wizard — will transition to an vital new position: deputy director of editorial operations. Along with overseeing our editorial planning, manufacturing, and particular tasks, he’ll have an expanded portfolio that features copy edit and picture. Andrew will report back to Lauren.

Annemarie Conte — who has been an distinctive deputy and has emerged as certainly one of our most charismatic, inventive, and compelling personalities — will see her position as a deputy editor evolve. She’ll handle a small staff, a part of the broader discovery staff, that can conceive and execute quite a lot of new content material experiments. These will embody recommendation columns, new and present Wirecutter franchises, assessments of buzzy new merchandise, and one-off service journalism items. Annemarie will proceed to take a number one position representing Wirecutter in all types of media. For now, Annemarie will report back to Lauren.

Alongside Christine, Jason, and Lauren, we’ll even be hiring a fourth editorial director. This individual will oversee three to 4 senior editors and their corresponding protection areas. This contains Offers (which, till this editorial director is employed, will briefly report immediately up into me). This final editorial director position is a extremely massive and vital job, and we’ll be contemplating each inner and exterior candidates.

I’m assured this new construction goes to set us up for main success as we proceed to develop and remodel this 12 months and past.

As all the time, any questions, simply ask. And please be a part of me in congratulating your colleagues on their new roles!
