  • Donald Trump stated that the Ukraine crisis wouldn’t have occurred if Donald Trump was still President.

  • After frozing nearly $400 Million in military assistance to Ukraine, Trump was impeached.

  • He previously stated that Crimea was part of Russia, and also praised Putin for his actions as being “genius and savvy.”

Donald Trump, the ex-US President, was impeached after withholding almost $400 million in Ukrainian military aid.

Russian President Vladimir Putin declared a complete invasion of Ukraine on Thursday morning, sending troops from Russia into the country’s northern, eastern and southern borders. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said in a Thursday evening addressThe invasion has resulted in the deaths of 137 Ukrainians and injuries to 306 others.

Trump released a statementDuring the crisis, he said, “If I was in Office, this terrible Ukraine situation wouldn’t have happened!”

This statement was made after Trump had earlier in the week called Putin’s justification of entering Ukraine “genius” as well as “savvy.”

“I went to the office yesterday. There was a television. And I said: “This is genius.” Putin declares a big portion of the Ukraine — of Ukraine — Putin declares it as independent. Trump replied, “Oh, that’s fantastic,” to a question about the news. I said “How smart is this?” “I said, ‘How smart is that?’ And he was going to go into and become a peacekeeper.”

These comments were in sharp contrast to the statements of US officials who claimed that Putin’s recognition in Ukraine of two Kremlin-backed regions of separatist forces was an attempt to invade the country under false pretenses.

Trump was impeached on 2019 charges of obstruction and abuse of power. Trump tried to intimidate Volodymyr Zelensky, the Ukrainian president, into initiating politically-motivated investigations against his Bidens before the 2020 elections. He also withheld vital military assistance while doing so.

After Politico published a report about Trump’s actions, security assistance was released and House Democrats began an investigation.

Trump shocked America’s allies again in 2018 by abandoning years of US foreign policies and telling G7 leaders the Crimea territory is Russian. These remarks were very shocking for leaders from other member countries, as Russia annexed Crimea in 2014. This was the reason why it was expelled from the G8.

Trump stated to journalists that Russia should be admitted back into NATO. Trump also asked reporters at the summit why leaders in the West chose Ukraine.

Trump said earlier in the week that the Ukraine crisis was due to Trump’s 2020 “rigged election”.

“Well, what went wrong was a rigged election and what went wrong is a candidate that shouldn’t be there and a man that has no concept of what he’s doing,” Trump said, adding that the invasion “never would have happened with us — had I been in office, not even thinkable. This wouldn’t have been possible.”
